thrift shop/sew easy!

Meet what used to be an XXL polo.  I purchased three unused (tags still attached) polo shirts from Goodwill at a price of $2.50 each.  I  made the pattern pieces from the purple one and created the basic green t-shirt you see here.  The pattern can be made with or without sleeves so I now have my own perfectly fitted custom made t-shirt pattern.  They go together very quickly with my serger.
Finished project!

The last shirt is solid yellow and I plan to make it sleeveless.  I'll feature it when it is done.

New Dress Under $20

Here is the latest!  I wish I had a better camera.  These things I am making are just so much cuter in person.  I used the top of the pattern from the last dress and draped a new skirt.  Totally cute and comfortable for work.  I could pair it with flats, sandals, heels and possibly even a belt.

Total cost for this one was under  $20!  The fabric was 50% off at Joann and the only notions needed were a zipper and thread.    Yes it took me some time but I have priced dresses like these and I know I saved money AND satisfied my need to be creative at the same time.

New Dress Under $15

I was in a hurry to take the picture so there are still pins in the sleeve but it is done now and looking good.  I could wear this with black flats or sandals for work and it could even translate into fall with black stockings and a great pair of closed toe short boots.

I even managed to conquer the art of the invisible zipper.  Never again will a use a regular one!  Yes, sewing takes time but it is a passion!  If you have skills you can make things you like for less.   I only buy fabric at this point if I have a 50% coupon.  So,  not counting my time this dress actually came in under $15.  It was just the fabric and the zipper.  (I already owned the belt)
